Veda Sunkara
Veda Sunkara is a Machine Learning Engineer at Floodbase. She has received both a Master’s (2020) and Bachelor’s (2019) of Science in computer science from Brown University, where she served as a teaching assistant and diversity advocate for several years. Her research projects analyzed and developed techniques for assessing and mitigating protected class bias in machine learning models. Broadly, Veda is interested in developing fairly applied and thoughtfully designed models to real-world applications that address the critical resource disparities which characterize the growing disproportionate effects of climate change. Prior to Floodbase, Veda interned at Google and Microsoft where she built end-to-end features as well as developer tools, and spearheaded computer science education initiatives for students of underrepresented gender identities in the broader Providence community.
